Sheffield Photo Marathon 2017

We had a bit of Daddy-daughter time today, out exploring and taking photos for the Sheffield Photo Marathon (here’s last year’s).

They give you six themes which are deliberately open-ended for you to interpret now you want. The challenge is that you have to submit exactly six photos, taken in the order of the categories. So it’s an exercise in editing and discipline as much as shooting good shots.

I found it hard to accept that I couldn’t keep hunting for something that might be better for earlier themes, and had to keep moving on. But I think it’s a good way to stop you getting to hung up on any one part.

Here are mine:

HiddenBrass plaque with no writing visible

Lines

Rows of names written in calligraphy

Pleasure

Baby grinning while reading a board book

Contact

Decrepit phone box in front of concrete flats at Park Hill

Modern

Woman with shopping walking on pavement obscured by parked cars

Out of place

Large road with traffic, with man doing a wheelie on a bike alongside

And finally, one (following the last one – look closely) which I didn’t submit as unfortunately it didn’t really fit into the last category, but wanted to keep anyway:
